Advancing post-crisis learning: TPCL project concept paper now available
In a world increasingly shaped by crises, effective crisis management and preparedness are essential. Yet, what happens after a crisis is equally critical. The post-crisis phase offers an invaluable opportunity to reflect, learn, and improve. Under the TPCL project, a new concept paper on post-crisis learning has been developed to assist organizations in refining their approaches to managing the aftermath of crises.
The TPCL project, launched in december 2023 and funded by the Swedish Institute, brought together representatives from 12 local-level organizations in Sweden, Georgia, and Estonia. Led by Malmö University in partnership with the Crisis Research Centre in Estonia and NGO Youth Supreme Council from Georgia, the initiative and network created emphasise building a strong foundation for post-crisis learning and organisational resilience.
Anne-May Nagel, co-founder and project manager for the Crisis Research Centre, highlighted the importance of this collaborative effort, stating, “The experience and input of the network of post-crisis management practitioners established through the project has been invaluable. This concept paper will serve as a cornerstone for local partners to improve their post-crisis strategies.”
As part of the project, participants completed an online module (3 seminars) focusing on various aspects of post-crisis management, including a strong emphasis on sharing experiences. Additionally, in-person meetings hosted in each participating country allowed local actors to map the factors that support and hinder post-crisis learning. The findings from these activities have been synthesised into the concept paper, which provides guidance on evaluating crisis performance, identifying barriers and enablers to learning, and enhancing resilience.
The concept paper is now available in English and serves as a practical resource for organisations aiming to strengthen their crisis management frameworks and better prepare for future challenges. It can be accessed here.
This effort underscores the importance of learning from crises to build a more resilient future. For more updates on the TPCL project and its ongoing initiatives, stay connected with the Crisis Research Centre and Malmö University. The project was funded by Swedish Institute.
